At the October 10th Council meeting, staff presented a report to the Council regarding fireworks. At this meeting Council passed a motion to prohibit the sale and use of fireworks for this year’s New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day to allow staff time to further consult the public on the sale and use of fireworks.
Community members have shared concerns about the impact of fireworks, particularly in terms of noise, environmental effects, and the well-being of pets. The Town of Wasaga Beach is seeking input from residents on the sale and use of fireworks in our community moving forward. To gather feedback and better understand whether the community supports or opposes the use of fireworks, the Town has launched a survey. The survey will remain open until 4:00 PM on February 10, 2025.
The Town will also host a Public Meeting on January 28, 2025 at 6:00 PM in the RE/MAX Room at the Wasaga Beach Stars Arena and Library.

When it comes to fireworks, there’s a significant difference between private property firework displays and town organized firework displays. Private property firework displays are often set off by individuals who may not have the necessary expertise or equipment to safely manage such an event. This can pose risks to public safety, as well as the environment, with unpredictable outcomes or accidental damage to property.
In contrast, town organized firework displays are carefully planned and executed by licensed professionals who adhere to strict safety protocols and regulations. These experts use high-quality fireworks and follow guidelines to ensure that displays are conducted in a controlled, safe manner, with minimal environmental impact. Furthermore, town organized firework displays are usually held in designated areas that help mitigate risks to pets, wildlife, and residents. By hiring professionals, the Town of Wasaga Beach aims to provide a festive, safe, and enjoyable experience for all, while reducing the concerns associated with private property firework displays.
